weather

Today was a wash as the weather is sooooo cold and windy. Dennis pushed the snow out of the garage with the blade on his truck and that is about it. I worked at Gayle's finishing hooking up the quest bath, setting a stool in the master bath, and hooking up the return air on the furnace.

Here are a few shot with the new Panasonic camera that I purchased yesterday in Mpls when I went up to visit Mary. When I started out yesterday the visiability was almost zero do to blowing snow so I explected to have to scoop snow out of the house today when I got back. To my surprise there was hardly any snow in the house.

pictures 1/27/07

The pile of trusses were delivered on a truck with rollers. They loosen the straps and tip the truck bed to let them slide off crashing to the ground. Then you can see we have a real door with lock and key.

In the excitement I didn't think of having building insurance, so I took care of that little detail Friday.

This is a very exciting project for an old retired plumber!

Update

Everything is going well except getting the pictures on to the blog. We are ready to set roof trusses. They arrived today but two of them were broken when they unloaded the truck. Should have the replacements Monday or Tuesday which is just fine because we plan to set them Wednesday. We have rented a VersaLift to lift them in place and use as a platform to put up the roof sheeting and shingles. Hopefully Will have this done in two weeks. For sure I will have the pictures posted for this event.

Today we worked on headers above the windows and cutting an access hole to the crawl space.

Also, I had pheasants in the front yard today. It was a beautiful day in the mid thirties. This will be the end for a while as we are set to get an Arctic blast the next few days.

More snow

Yesterday afternoon I shoveled six inches of snow out of the house and today Dennis pushed all of the snow around the house back out of the way. That left about a half a day to start putting up interior walls. Tomorrow I hope we can get the rest of the interior walls up. We are expected to get some more snow starting in the early morning. I hope they are wrong. The landscape is shrouded in about twelve inches of snow. It is an awesome sight. Maybe I can remember the camera tomorrow.

Latest photos

The first shot is a view from the living room window. The second is the kitchen. The snow blower will probably be put to use Monday as we are supposed to get from three to five inches of snow tonight and tomorrow am. The last is just a shot taken to show all of the sheeting that Dennis and I put up Friday.
The interior framing materials are supposed to be delivered Monday. Dennis thinks it will take all week to put them up and get ready for roo trusses. I hope we can do it faster.
It is enjoyable working with Dennis and I'm impressed with the accuracy of his work. This is a very wonderful experience.

Well, yesterday I had to work at my given profession and Dennis moved snow and built a couple of the walls. This morning we met at 8:00 and got as far as you can see on the pictures. Had to leave for Mpls at 11:00 so could only work a little less than three hours. The outside walls actually go up pretty fast and makes it look like you did something. Dennis was going to put the rest of the outside walls together and I'll help him stand them in the morning. When that is done we will start putting on the exterior sheeting on the North and West walls so se can work on the interior walls and be sheltered a little from the wind.

Hobby Farm House

Mary and I drove out Saturday to see the progress on the house. Dennis (the carpenter) and I put the walls (you see in the photo)up Friday in a -25 degree wind chill. Dennis told me that he only need help lifting up the walls but I told him that I would freeze to death if I didn't keep busy. Well he found out that I could measure, cut and drive nails (the nail gun can't function in 0 degree weather). It was cold but we only worked about three hours. Tomorrow I think we are going to start by removing about 7" of snow.

Hobby Farm House

I thought it might be interesting to record the progress on the new house. Below are pictures one showing the view to the South from the living room and master bedroom, and the other of the crawl space with forms to set for walls. Pictures taken 12/2.
