Fire

Tonight on the way back from Marcos I saw a fire at the Land Fill. Mary didn't even notice and I didn't think too much about it until my neighbor called and asked if I'd call the Com Center to report the fire. She didn't want to because she thought she was always calling and it would be better if I did.

I called and the dispatcher after I told the dispatcher about the fire she asked, where is the land fill, how big is the fire. After answering these intelligent questions she said she would send someone out to look. Shortly after that B called and asked if there was a lot of commotion in the neighborhood. I looked out the window and the Land Fill was lit up like a Christmas tree. It was adorned with nine fire trucks. The other day I was in the utility room and decided to label the manifold for the water pipes. When that was done I noticed a spot next to it that seemed like wasted space so yesterday I started a cabinet for the spot and got it put in just before Mary got home.

Lunar eclipse

Last night was the last total eclipse until 2012. Thought it might be nice to see it. To start with the moon rise was sensational but by the time the eclipse started it was hazy and also very cold to stand out there trying to find the dim light in the sky with the camera zoomed in.

New record

The picture taken from the deck show what it looks like when the temp brakes the record by six degrees. Also am reposting the pheasant as had to alter the post because of a virus threats(besides I love the picture). It is about six weeks until Spring and the when field work should begin. Doesn't seem possible.

Plain Cold

When I woke this morning the radio was talking about late starts for schools. I looked out and couldn't see any snow but the wind was blowing nicely. The wind had packed the snow in such hard drifts that you could walk on them and not leave a footprint. I walked out to the mail box to get the paper and that was as far as I thought was even safe to walk. A good part of the rest of the day was spent taking a spade and breaking off the snow drift and pushing it out with the ATV. The blade broke on the ATV but had enough moved to get the truck out and take it to town for Bob Yeske to fix. Now I just got done putting away the ATV and the drive looks pretty good. Did take time to put some corn out for the pheasants and two hens came through the yard for the pictures you see after having their fill. I don't get tired of taking pictures of them.

Cold purifies

We have had a good old fashioned winter. It is the kind we think we can remember. The last really cold one that I can remember was 1983 or 4 when the bank thermometer did not get above minus 15 for three or four days. On top of that we had a snow storm. Can remember trying to make a service call and not being able to get out of town. This winter is not that bad but minus 8 for 2/15 is cold.

This has been a cold and windy day. We didn't get much snow but it a drifted by driveway and I just got done plowing it out along with the mail box where maintainer seems to love to pile up snow. Thought the creature in my front yard might be of interest. Its not bad living out in the elements!

Beautiful Day

What a gorgeous day it was with the frost on the trees, fog early, and then the bright sun later in the day. It was so nice that I added a mile onto my walk. There were pheasants feeding in both the corn fields. It was fun to see all the fresh tracks of the wildlife in the snow. The landscape looked so pristine.

Weekend job

The weekend was spent making a cabinet for my bathroom. The picture is inserted for you to grade. I think it should be at least a C+.

We got about three inches of snow overnight and into this am. Wet and heavy but the ATV did a good job
